The Prayer Horse Ride began on March 17-26 in Schurz. It went through Yerington, Fallon, Wadsworth/Nixon, Lovelock, and Orovada. It ended in Peehee Mu’huh (Thacker Pass). The ride went through the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Paiute, Shoshone and Bannock. The ride raised awareness about lithium mining in McDermitt Caldera. It also raised awareness about copper mining in the Pine Nut Hills in remembrance of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women / People (MMIW/P) and revitalizing cultural identity, languages and lifeways in indigenous communities.

It also honored the memory of journalist and defender of the land and culture, Myron Dewey, who was a beloved Paiute Shoshone filmmaker, photojournalist, drone pilot and founder of Digital Smoke Signals. This independent media outlet helped shed light on the Standing Rock movement. Indian Voices covered Standing Rock as well. We were shoulder to shoulder with Digital Smoke Signals.

On Sunday, March 17, the ride began in Schurz, a town within the jurisdiction of the Walker River Paiute Tribe where Dewey was an enrolled tribal member.
