Trump’s new nominee to head the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is Markwayne Mullin, current Oklahoma Senator and citizen of Cherokee Nation.
Mullin is also an undefeated MMA fighter, owner of a ranch and restaurant chain with his wife. He serves on several Senate committees.
Cherokee Chief Chuck Hostin, Jr. has says he is “hopeful” that Mullin will bring a new perspective as DHS security.
Ousted DHS head Kristy Noem was banned by several tribes in South Dakota, while she was governor or that state, and also detaining tribal citizens during ICE immigration crackdowns in Minnesota.
