Joan Botts, Vice President of Marketing

2 years with Paragon Casino Resort

What does a day of work look like for you?

I oversee several areas, including advertising, social media, PR, direct mail, promotions, entertainment, marketing analysis, player development, loyalty club, sponsorships and the call center — lots of different tasks, projects and initiatives to help keep the job exciting. It’s a different adventure every day!

Can you share your journey to becoming a leader at Paragon? What inspired you to pursue this path?

I have over 25 years of experience in the marketing side of the gaming and casino industry. My first job was at a casino in Tunica, Mississippi as a PR Manager. I fell in love with the business immediately. The casino/resort/hospitality world is full of excitement and challenges that have provided me with incredible career opportunities and personal growth at the same time. The casino business has been my life and my passion since 1995.

What is your favorite thing about working at Paragon?

Being an integral part of a legacy operation—one of the first land-based casinos in Louisiana—Paragon represents 30+ years of tradition and history, as well as being part of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana. For me, being able to help the property continue to thrive through our marketing initiatives is one of my favorite things about working here.

What does Women’s History Month mean to you personally and professionally?

Personally, as a mom/wife/daughter/sister, this month is certainly important in remembering and recognizing those who came before us – the trailblazers. Professionally, we should all strive to set examples for the generations to come. As a working mom, female executive and a 26-year breast cancer survivor, it IS possible to have and do it all.
