This year, the City of Lemon Grove celebrated Juneteenth by raising the Juneteenth flag and awarding civic-minded citizens for their contributions to Black America. The event was hosted by foster child advocate, president and lawyer Shane Harris and Mayor Racquel Vasquez, who champions human rights, food security and effective budgeting for program fruition. The community was amazed by the Juneteenth awardees. For instance, heiress to the California Curl empire Sheryl Morrow was recognized for her commitment to uplifting Black culture. Mr. Floyd Smith of Bogeys, Fargo’s BBQ and Therapy for Veterans was praised for using music to uplift Black love. The Carters shared the lovely gift of their son Billy, who is working diligently in the community to support HBCUs. He was recognized through formal proclamation for “Empowering Youth through Positivity.” Politician Alison Snow, Councilman Jerry Jones and County Assessor Jordan Marks also attended the festivities. Look for next year’s Juneteenth celebration!
