The Pala Band of Mission Indians and the First San Diego Courthouse Museum are thrilled to announce the upcoming celebration of Antonio Garra Day on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. This momentous event promises to be one of the largest gatherings of Southern California Native American groups to honor the life and enduring legacy of the Native American patriot, Antonio Garra.
Antonio Garra, a revered leader in the fight for the rights and sovereignty of Southern California and Northern Baja tribes, left a lasting impact through his bravery and advocacy. Despite his wrongful execution in 1852, Garra’s spirit and dedication to his people’s cause continue to inspire generations. This special event aims to commemorate his contributions and celebrate the ongoing resilience and rich cultural heritage of California Indian communities.
“Antonio Garra Day is not just a remembrance of a significant figure in our history; it’s a vibrant celebration of the strength, culture, and unity of Native American communities. We are deeply honored to bring together so many diverse groups to share in this day of education, reflection, and celebration,” said Eric Ortega, the event’s head organizer.
“We invite everyone to join us in Old Town San Diego to honor Antonio Garra’s legacy and to celebrate the contributions and resilience of Native American communities throughout history and into the future.”
Open to the public and entirely family-friendly, Antonio Garra Day invites everyone to participate in a day filled with music, speeches, and cultural exhibitions, fostering a deeper connection with San Diego’s Native American history.
