The memorial service for three men killed in Monday’s mass shooting — Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad — took place Thursday.

The three men were killed in the process of stopping two gunmen trying to enter the Islamic Center of San Diego. The two fled the scene as law enforcement appeared and later died by suicide.

San Diego’s Muslim community continues to grieve their beloved community members and remember them as the heroes who kept the children safe.

They also have not lost sight of the role that poisoned rhetoric played in the attack. You can find much more in our lead story today by Roberto Camacho about how much of a sense of security has been lost — but how much there remains to protect.
