On August 9, 2024, the Indigenous Sovereign Nations put together a beautiful array of history and culture at the County Operation Center located on Overland to help us celebrate International Day of the World’s Indigenous People. The goal of the day was to incorporate honesty ,truth, humility, love, wisdom, courage, and respect into our actions.
The Tippay Indians performed a heartfelt song introduction. The native acknowledgement was followed by the Soaring Eagles Dancers who performed beautiful historic healing movements. The Red Warriors Drum Circle led the music portion and were joined by Danza Azteca Kuauhkoatl for additional healing dancing. The event also had jewelry making, Indian frybread, nachos and Hawaiian Ice.
The County of San Diego provided resource information for mental health care. Legal assistance advice was provided from University of San Diego. There was also food distribution, and the Community Health Engagement Team was in attendance. The event included art tables where we created flowers and keychains. The multicultural element of this event is so important because the attendance included internationals with high respect for our Native community that ride with Native success. The international community has a long history of honoring Natives Americans and working together to help society. The multicultural community should be praised for encouraging interactions to promote education, employment and health care.
