“A motorcycle club is not a gang,” stated Brothers of the Sun godfather Jimmy Mackas the club gathered to feed senior citizens last year during Thanksgiving. Every year, for decades, the Brothers of the Sun/Sisters of the Sun(BOTS/SOTS), which is a nationwide organization, have provided home-cooked holiday meals to seniors at a facility located next to Gonzales Park in Compton.
The seniors look forward to it each year. The club has also held a toy drive since 1973. In the beginning, the LA Chapter had over 300 members. Their motorcycles lined Long Beach Boulevard in Compton.
In November 2024, the club laid two brothers, Tazz and Tantrum, to rest. Not even a week later, BOTS and SOTS also lost their national president. He was a 20-year military vet, leader, friend, father, brother, and huge influence on Black motorcycle culture in Southern California. This man’s name was T Bone. He was a fearless leader who believed in family, unity, and love.
This is the culture that draws men and women to motorcycle (MC) organizations. Brothers and Sisters of the Sun has come a long way in 51 years. With that, they have offered their communities so much through various events in every state and county a chapter is located in. They are good people who are trying to escape inner city violence. They are trying to escape the stereotype that has been placed on the biker community and Black folks in general. This multicultural club is a MC staple in the MC culture, and it has more to bring.
This article is dedicated to all our fallen brothers and sisters in all clubs and especially to our fearless leader and national president Brothers of the Sun T Bone. Life is short. Enjoy it.
