Lisa Sherman – Founder of Tribal Sacred Waters, Inc. Announces Candidacy for Santa Ysabel Tribal Council
Lisa Sherman is an enrolled member of the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel and founder of Tribal Sacred Waters, Inc. She has dedicated years of service to her Tribal community, including work with Indian Health Council, Tribal programs, previously gaming regulation as a Gaming Commissioner, and numerous community initiatives. She is currently pursuing a seat on her Tribal Council.
Through Tribal Sacred Waters, Lisa is reconnecting Native American communities with their ancestral oceans and sacred waters through Tribal stewardship, cultural education, Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), climate resilience, and intergenerational learning.
Tribal Sacred Waters is a California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) licensed agent authorized to sell fishing and hunting licenses and tags, proudly working toward greater Native representation in fisheries management.
Although the organization holds a multi functional commercial fishing license, Lisa continues advocating for equitable Tribal commercial fishing rights, particularly access to California’s lucrative spiny lobster fishery. She is raising awareness that Native American voices have historically been excluded from important fisheries decisions and that Tribal communities need meaningful opportunities to participate in commercial fisheries.
Her mission is to restore Indigenous connections to the ocean, protect ancestral resources, educate future generations, and ensure Tribal voices have a seat at the table.
Our waters. Our traditions. Our future.
Historically the Kumeyaay people have been attached to the water and dependent on the aquatic environment of the San Diego Bay. An area of the Bay was recently renamed Kumeyaay Beach by the San Diego Port Authority.
The tribes are gradually reclaiming their identity and heritage. While the psycho drama of our alleged political leadership plays out on the world stage the Indigenous community is realigning their connection with Mother Earth.
Lisa Sherman has announced her intention to run for Tribal Council.
