Henderson, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) was awarded the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans’ (NARA) Shero 2023 Congressional Award by NARA’s Dick Collins Chapter in Henderson, Nevada for having a perfect voting record delivering on issues impacting retirees and seniors in Nevada.
“I want to thank all of you for the work you’re doing to support retired Nevadans, and I’m proud partner with you to ensure every Nevadan can retire with dignity,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “Our seniors built this country from the ground up, and I’ll never stop fighting to protect and strengthen the critical benefits they’ve earned.”
Founded in 2001, NARA works with Nevada unions, civic organizations, and government leaders to advocate for the financial security, health, and well-being of retirees in Nevada and to strengthen their Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid benefits, as well as their pensions. The Las Vegas Chapter of NARA is named after Dick Collins, a retired teacher and community advocate who passed away in 2017.
Senator Cortez Masto has consistently worked to lower costs and ensure Nevada seniors can retire with dignity. She passed bipartisan legislation to encourage retirement savings through automatic enrollment to ensure full pension benefits for nearly 3 million workers remain solvent for decades. Additionally, she’s cosponsoring legislation to restore Social Security benefits for public sector workers. Cortez Masto also helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and capping the cost of insulin at $35-a-month for Medicare recipients. She has introduced bipartisan legislation to improve the transparency of Medicare Advantage plans. And she helped create a Nevada-specific fund from the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco delivering $9.4 million this year to build more homes Nevadans can afford, including senior and Tribal housing.
