Deb Haaland, who served as Secretary of the interior in the Biden Administration (2021-25), announced her plans to run for Governor of New Mexico.

Ms. Haaland (Laguna Pueblo) was the first Native American to serve as Secretary of the Interior, which oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs. If she wins the governorship, she will be the first Native American to serve as governor of any U.S. state.
