Only 80 veteran, civilian, charitable, and philanthropic organizations will be selected to participate in Operation Debt-Day debt between now and June 5,2025. The collective goal is to remove $80,000,000 in unpaid and unpayable personal debt from the backs of veterans across the U.S.

Why $80 million? And why Debt-Day?

On June 6, 1944, American and Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe in an operation called D-Day.

That was 80 years ago. In honor of that number, Operation Debt-Day will see that asymbolic $1M in veteran debt will be abolished for each of those years. Eighty years. Eighty million dollars.

The need is compelling.

Today’s returning warriors transition into a different America than existed in 1944/1945, one in which the GI Bill is not nearly as generous, and veterans struggle to qualify for healthcare that is “discretionary” on the part of the VA. Disability and healthcare claims seem to take forever to resolve – and all too many are denied.

This, in combination with the usual social and economic ills of homelessness, PTSD, job loss, frayed marriages leaves veterans enmeshed in oppressive bills. Operation Debt-Day intends to correct this injustice one million dollars at a time. Eighty times. To reach $80,000,000. A goal that must be reached by June 5, 2025.

Is this an impossibility? Not when the numbers are understood. Every $30,000 in donations raised will eliminate $1M in debt purchased on the open market.

A Very Specific “Random Act of Kindness”

End Veteran Debt (EVD), a 501(c)(3) private charitable foundation is charged with overseeing Operation Debt-Day and employing Forgive Co, a public benefit corporation devoted to debt abolition, to locate and purchase veteran debt and then extinguish it.

Each veteran recipient will receive a letter from EVD and its partner benefactor to confirming the debt being abolished, the name and account number for the original creditor, and the amount that has has been cleared.
