January 20, 2025: President Trump takes office, declares a new name for the Golfo de Mexico, citing a need for names that “declare America’s greatness.”

Jan 25, 2025: Associated Press (AP) guidance sheet agrees with Trump changing Denali’s name to “Mt. McKinley, because Denali lies entirely within the United States, while the Gulf of Mexico does not. Thereby AP will still be calling it, the Gulf of Mexico.

February 10, 2025: Google announces it will be using the name “Gulf of America.”

February 13, 2025: The White House bars the AP reporter from attending the visit by Indian President Narendra Modi, citing the AP’s refusal to accept the term, Gulf of America.

February 14, 2025:  Mexico Will Not rule out suing Google over changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico. Google acted, apparently, at the behest of US President Trump.
