This Juneteenth season has been filled with several events celebrating contributions from the African American community. This year, Crawford High School and the California Black Caucus hosted a meeting of the minds.
In attendance was San Diego’s very own California Secretary of State, Dr. Shirley Weber, who strives to “fix the holes in justice,” her daughter and Assembly Member Dr. Akila Webber and Mayor Racquel Vasquez of Lemon Grove. Also attending were Crawford Principal Dr. Villerie, Senator Steve Bradford and the Reparations Taskforce, USC Professor of Equity and Research, Dr. Manuel Pastor, who supports DACA and the Working Americans Movement; Corey Jackson of the Inland Empire, who champions “Economic Education;” SB Supporter Mike Gibson of Compton’s California Black Caucus.
The list of dignitaries continues with Assembly member and MANA de San Diego supporter David Alvarez , and President of the National Black Contractors Association Abdur Rahim.
The event covered DACA’s success, restorative justice, Crawford High School’s Young Lawyers Program, reparations bills, program funding, land ownership, wealth building, rent control, strategies for reducing hate crimes and economic development.
