June 10, 2024 — According to The Nevada Independent, former Rep. Shelley Berkley(D-Las Vegas) and Las Vegas City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman said Tuesday’s primary results were exactly what they expected. Based on results from the state’s early voting period and initial return from Tuesday, Berkley held a nearly 4,000-vote lead over Seaman, with both well ahead in a field of 15 candidates. Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear trailed Seaman by roughly 6,000 votes and was 10,000 votes behind Berkley. Nevada is considered a swing state, which means it has the ability to switch between both democratic and republican parties.
Army veteran Mark Robertson won the Republican primary for Congressional District 1, setting up a rematch of the 2022 contest when he lost to Rep. Dina Titus(D-NV). Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, a former lawmaker who previously worked as an elementary school teacher, has emerged as the winner of the Ward 3 Las Vegas City Council race, retaining the seat she has held since 2019.
In North Las Vegas’ reliably blue Assembly District 17, Culinary Union-backed Linda Hunt defeated the Assembly Democratic Caucus’ pick, Mishon Montgomery. Republicans got the candidate they wanted to take on Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV).Army veteran Sam Brown, the preferred choice of the GOP establishment in both D.C. and Nevada, will win Tuesday’s Republican primary for U.S. Senate, according to a race call made by The Nevada Independent. He will now take on Rosen in the general election in a race that political analysts have said will be a “toss-up” and, if he wins, will all but guarantee Republican control of the Senate.
